FINALLY!!!

I am about to do something that you will almost never see. (*I certainly have yet to see any blog on the "Anti-Adoption" movement side do this).

I am going to post a link to the opposing side's argument!

Yes, that is true. It is because I am amazed by this post. It is the first one that writes about any sort of proposal for alternatives to Adoption.

My biggest "issue" with the whole "Anti-Adoption" movement was their total lack of alternatives. You can't just shutdown an institution such as Adoption, and not have a way to "handle" all of the kids in the system.

You can find it here: Alternatives

Funny how almost all of the "Anti-Adoption" blogs have comment moderation, meaning the author has to approve your comments first. I'm sure it is because they are afraid of the "Blurting" out that some people against the Anti-Adoption movement might do. You will notice on my blog I do not have any sort of moderation on. When you post your comment, it is posted. The reason I do that is because if someone from the "Anti-Adoption" movement is going to post something radical on my blog and wants to try and totally trash me personally, it only helps me to persuade more of my target audience (not by logic but by personality..lol)...so I welcome everyone to post comments in agreement or in dissent!

Anyways, I posted a reply to their article, but you'll have to wait to see if the moderator will approve my opposing thoughts!

  1. They leave comment moderation on to avoid being harrassed or insulted.

(Although that's not to say that I've seen some pretty bad insults coming from the anti-adoption agreement by certain bloggers...)

You aren't "superior" just because you leave comment moderation off, just in case that is what you thought. And "expecting" insults hurled at you by other bloggers just to further "prove" your point doesn't make you superior either.

Most people have the decency not to flame... others, not so much, unfortunately. It is their loss if all they wish to do is trade insults back and forth.

  2. I just wanted to point out that a lot of people (myself included) moderate my comments NOT to screen out dissenting viewpoints (although I'm sure that some do), but to keep out spam. Spam has gotten very clever recently and gets past quite a few spam filters, and has even become clever enough to be "approved" by people who moderate their comments. So far I have approved every non-spam comment that someone has made, even the racist ones, because they say a lot more about the comment's author than about anything else.

Also, I think Gershom has been published just about every dissenting comment she's gotten (and that's quite a few, as I'm sure you've read). I don't think she has time to respond to them all, but if her goal is to censor the voices of her opposition, she's not doing a very good job.

  3. Sorry, I thought your link pointed to antiadoption.WORDPRESS.COM, which is obviously Gershom... my bad.

  4. Hrm. I guess my comments about comment moderation was taken differently then I intended. I did not mean to give any connotations that I was in anyway "superior" because of the lack of moderation on my blog. That isn't to say I don't believe I'm superior for other reasons....lol

No, my comments about site moderation was purely for the benefit of discussing the value of comment moderation. If you are a blogger that is part of a "movement" why not allow all comments? If someone starts flaming, it only helps your "cause". Even though its not a logical rather emotional suppport you gain; support is support.

I was also trying to explain to people why anyone would leave site moderation off, and be willing to take "flaming". It has nothing to do with "superiority" but merely informing readers. I was also just noting an observation of mine that "Anti-Adoption" people tend to have moderation turned on.

  5. I didn't think about the "spam" issue. However, isnt that what the "delete" option is for?

As the author of this blog, I can delete any comments (such as spam?)

Not if it gets to the point of harrassment.

Is that what happened to you, Sang-Shil?

  7. I have 2 adopted children and I am glad to find another adoptee who is NOT anti-adoption. I think there a lot of happy adoptees out there but they are in the minority when it comes to speaking out. :-)

My son is from Korea as well. :-)

I'll be bookmarking your site! Thanks!

  8. Thank you AZMom for visiting.

I agree with you, I think there are a lot of happy adoptees out there. However, I think most of them don't blog about it because to them (and to me until recently) think their lives are boring average lives.

That is so cool that your son is from Korea. Korean kids are the cutest :)

  9. I like your blog. I was adopted from Korea when I was 12 months old. Being raised by caucasian people, I don't know how to cook korean dishes, but I LOVE korean food. I hope to learn more from this blog! Thanks for sharing your experience.
